Yesterday I set off on an impossible quest: to take a picture of myself that I don't hate. I failed in that venture, but I did manage to get a quarter of a picture that was acceptable, and here it is. Mirrors like me, but cameras have some inexplicable vendetta against me. Go figure.
I have the same problem as you with cameras and mirrors. I do however feel like I'm pretty good at photographing others. If you ever end up in Washington let me know I would love to photograph you. I have been enjoying your art for some time and I know how it is to want a good photo of yourself and not be able to get one. <3
I have a similar problem and recently I have found out what it is.
Ahem, anyway... You are most probably very selfconscious, especially as you aren't looking into a mirror, you are looking into a lense and therefore you can't see what face you're pulling/how you look etc... Try getting someone to take a picture secretly (hopefully not on the shitter or something like that) and yeah.
Most people hate photographs of themselves, because they are seeing the reverse image of what they normally see in a mirror. We are so used to looking at the reflection of ourselves that anything else looks odd. Try flipping the image, and I'll bet you'll like the image you see more often than not. I'ts quite hilarious that how we perceive ourselves is the exact opposite of what we really are, in all senses.
